How To Get The Job You Want In The Military – The Institute of Science and Technology of Barcelona () organized two career workshops this fall: the first, “Self-analysis and making career choices” took place on September 30 and October 1 at the location in the beautiful Escola Industrial, and the second, “The tools you need to get the job you want” will take place from October 28-29 with the collaboration of Barcelona Activa, at the location of Barcelona Activa. If you’re struggling with the questions and feel overwhelmed by the job search, don’t worry—here are some strategies for finding a job you love.
Before scouring the jobs, take stock of what you want from a job first. This includes your interests, top skills and logistical items such as salary and workplace.
What did you always want to be when you grew up? It’s okay if you don’t have a dream job – and it’s completely normal not to dream of coding all day or marketing the newest big tech product.
“You can think, ‘I just want to get a job that makes money and I don’t hate it,’ and you can do that,” says Super Julie Braun (SJ), professional career consultant and the founder and CEO of Super Purposes. “Or you can ask some pointed questions to help you get where you belong and experience meaningful work.”
How To Ace A Job Interview
Remember to think about what you are not interested in as well. For all the above questions, consider the opposite. For example, what disinterests you? What job would go against your values? Who wouldn’t you want to work for? This can help you rule out potential career options.
Once you’ve figured out what you’re interested in, it’s time to figure out what you can bring to the table. Even if you have no work experience, you still have valuable skills to offer. Consider what you’ve learned through classes, internships, externships, volunteer opportunities, and extracurricular activities.
Then, think about your soft skills and write short bullet points of how you used them. For example, you may have used collaboration skills to lead a group research project with students from different academic backgrounds. Or maybe you used public speaking skills to give a presentation that helped drive donations to a school charity. These descriptions will also be useful when it’s time to write your resume.
What if you don’t have the skills you want or need for a field? “Skills are the easiest things to acquire, so remember, if there is an area of interest for you and you lack a few skills, take the class or get the internship that will give you what you need,” says SJ .
Ways To Go From Underemployed To Getting The Job You Want
There is much more to a job than your daily responsibilities. Everything from your co-workers to the workplace to work-life balance can greatly affect your experience at work – and affect whether or not you truly love your job.
“Think about the environment you want to work in (remember it’s every day) and when you’re most productive,” says Buck Martinez, co-founder and president of the Student ACES board.
These questions can help you imagine how you want to work and who you want to work with.
However, other work logistics – such as benefits and salary – are also important. Additional work logistics questions include:
What Do You Want In A Job?
Just because you’re starting your career doesn’t mean you can’t get elected. Think about your non-negotiables in terms of work logistics and other items that you can be more flexible about. For example, maybe you know you won’t accept a job that offers less than $45,000, but you’re flexible if a position is remote or hybrid.
Now that you know your skills and what you’re looking for, it’s time to figure out how to find a job you love.
“Spray and Pray” describes applying it to many tasks without much targeting or intention. Instead, your hopes are that by applying to almost anything, you’ll eventually get an offer for something—even if it’s not something you really want.
Instead, use your list of interests, skills and logistics to apply for jobs you really want and think you’re qualified for (remember: you don’t need to have every qualification to apply for or land the role!).

According to CNBC, as much as 70% of all jobs are not posted on the first jobs. This means there are open jobs that you might not even know are available. However, you can connect with people in the industry to learn more and find out what they are up to.
Networking is intimidating and nerve-racking, but it can help you learn about opportunities; better understand a field, specific position, or company; and even land a role (80% of people land roles through a network connection, according to CNBC).
