Why Is The British Military Still In The Falkland Islands
Most of these are small contingents. However, some sixty installations are directly run by the British Armed Forces, including seven installations in Cyprus. Allied countries host British military personnel in some sixty-nine installations, including in Oman, where there are six, and Saudi Arabia, where there are five.

The figures were revealed after UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a £16.5 billion increase in the country’s challenge budget.
The 145 sites include 60 which the UK operates itself, as well as another 85 British allies run.
According to Miller, these seem to fit the description of what Mark Carleton-Smith, the Chief of the General Staff, called “lily pads”.
In Africa, British troops are in Djibouti, Kya, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Somalia. There are five bases/training facilities in Kya, including Camp Kifaru, which is part of BATUK at Kahawa Barracks in Nairobi.

The command’s mission is “[t]o provide logistical support to operational forces deployed in the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf AORs in support of national policy objectives.”
Despite the fact that it is technically owned by the Ministry of Defce, the facility is primarily occupied by elements of the US Navy.

According to a UK Declassified report, the British military also has around 60 personnel stationed around the country. Around 25 of these have challenging attaché roles at the British High Commission in Canberra and at Australian Department of Defense sites near the capital, such as the Joint Operations Command in Bungdore.

As British overseas territories, the Turks and Caicos Islands, Montserrat, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands have established locally recruited units that are British Army reserves.
The most correctly established of these is the Turks and Caicos Islands Regimt, which was officially raised in April 2020.

RAF Mount Pleasant is the largest of six sites in the Falkland Islands, the only South American territory with British military personnel. Mount Pleasant is supplied from a yard in Mare Harbour. The islands are monitored by three radar sites at Mount Alice, Byron Heights and Mount Kt, respectively.
RAF Ascion: The RAF maintains an air base on the island of Ascion; notable for its use as a staging post during the 1982 Falklands War, the territory is also the site of a joint UK-US signals intelligence facility.
HMS Jufair: Britain’s return east of Suez was marked by the establishment of a major naval support facility. Officially opened in 2018, in the Bahraini port of Mina Salman, the base can support vessels up to the size of aircraft carriers. Bahrain is also home to the UK Maritime Component Command, which supports Royal Navy anti-mine countermeasures ships deployed in the Middle East.
