Britain’s Ministry of Defense tweeted on Monday morning that more than a quarter of the 120 battalion tactical groups that Russia has fielded in the battle have “rendered combat ineffective” and that the most elite forces of the country “suffered the highest level of destruction. ” The 120 battalion group represented approximately 65 percent of the ground combat strength at the start of the invasion.

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry claimed on Monday that Russia had lost 23,800 troops. Ukraine also listed 1,048 tanks, 2,519 armored personnel carriers, 459 artillery systems, 194 aircraft and 84 cruise missiles among Russia’s losses. In late March, NATO estimated that Russia had lost between 7,000 and 15,000 troops.

Ukraine says as many as 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the war, CNN reported. However, this figure has not been independently verified.
On Monday, Ukraine’s Chief of General Staff Valeriy Zaluzhniy said a Ukrainian drone destroyed two Russian Raptor-class patrol ships near Snake Island in the Black Sea.

There have also been recent signs of demoralization among both the Russian soldiers and population.
A poll released Thursday showed that amid heavy losses, there was a decline in support for the conflict. The poll found that 74 percent of respondents said they supported Russia’s military actions—down from 81 percent in a March poll.
However, as Russian losses continue to mount, the threat of Russia’s use of nuclear weapons continues to rise, Senator Bob Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in an appearance on Fox News at the end of week.
“Well, one of my concerns is that, ironically, the more success the Ukrainians have, the greater the risk that Putin will do something because he’s losing and has to save face at home,” said Menendez. Plans to disband the 2nd company of the Special Commando Forces (KSK) were first announced four weeks ago by Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.
The KSK has been part of the German Army, the Bundeswehr, since 1996. The group focuses on counter-terrorism operations and hostage rescues from hostile areas. Its members have served in Afghanistan and the Balkans, but its operations are kept secret.

The KSK has about 300 soldiers and several hundred additional personnel. Some soldiers will be transferred to other KSK companies, according to the ministry.
